Phuket Dining and Restaurants

From top end to street stall dining, Phuket has it all… and then some. It’s often been said that half the population of this island is eating while the other half is cooking for them. Of course, local food is a lot more genuine (and cheap) away from tourist centres but Patong, Karon and Kata all have excellent international restaurants catering for the many different nationalities visiting Phuket.

Dining with a view is not a luxury here – more of an easy option – and high-end dining with a fantastic view a definite possibility at several different locations. Bon appetite!
What to Eat in Phuket

When in Rome… Cheap ‘normal’ Thai restaurants are everywhere in Phuket and the best measure of whether they’re good or not is if they are busy or quiet. Fresh seafood is the primary draw for diners on the island and there is plenty of it to choose from in the many ice-filled ‘display boats’ along the West Coast’s busier stretches. Patong also features a line of seafood restaurants on Rat-U-Thit Road.

Steaks and red meat dishes are very reasonably priced compared to western standards and you’re never too far from an Italian or Mexican restaurant wherever you are on the West Coast.

Decisions, decisions… For most people, their location decides for them but others are willing to travel for quality at the dinner table. Some of the best restaurants in Patong are: Da Maurizio’s, the next-door Joe’s Downstairs, The 9th Floor, Jean-Pierre in BYD Lofts, Sala Bua in Impiana Cabana, Sam’s Steaks in the Holiday Inn, Floyd’s Brasserie in Burasari. Pub Grub is good at Scruffy Murphy’s and Molly Malone’s.

In the Kata-Karon area, The Boathouse does fine dining in style, diagonally opposite is Two Chefs, while round the corner look for signs for La Cappanina. Ratri ‘Jazztaurant’ up on the hill overlooking Kata is also recommendable as is Karon Café.
